Our focus here is the military history of the Civil War (or War Between the States as it is known to those of us from the South). There are plenty of other places to discuss the causes and modern controversies about the war. The objective here is to provide a place for learning about the military aspects, historic sites and points of interest related to the Civil War and to provide a forum for discussion and sharing information.
Since 2011 marks the beginning of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, it seems an appropriate time to begin a daily recounting of the war, its significant events, battlefields and related sites. Beginning tomorrow (January 3rd), I will post on the military aspects of secession and the months leading up to the bombardment of Fort Sumter in April of 1861.
